First prototype of a melting reactor for steel recycling, developed between 2024 and 2025 as part of an Interreg project led by our partner PANATERE.

Socrate Industrie is participating in the European SOLDEM project, which will demonstrate the world’s first hybrid solar melting process for brass and stainless steel scrap, replacing fossil fuel furnaces with an integrated renewable solution. By combining concentrated solar heat, renewable electricity and solar hydrogen, SOLDEM will provide a steady, reliable, low-carbon energy supply for energy-intensive metallurgy.As part of the project, Socrate Industrie will lead the design, manufacture and commissioning of the melting reactor. The prototype is expected to be ready in winter 2027 and will be installed at the Odeillo solar furnace.
